PDAC provides the perfect pulse check on where the industry is headed, and this year did not disappoint. Over the course of the conference, we had the privilege of facilitating several media interviews for our clients, helping them share their stories and innovations with a global audience. Beyond the interviews, there were countless conversations, forging new connections, and gaining important insights, and one thing was abundantly clear: the mining industry is evolving, and its role in building a sustainable future has never been more critical.
While the ongoing tariff tensions between Canada and the U.S. dominated many panels and hallway conversations, there was an undeniable consensus: the world needs more mining, not less — and we need it fast without compromising on environmental and social responsibility.
AI: The Game-Changer in Mining
Among all the trends discussed, one topic that really stood out for me was Artificial Intelligence (AI) and its transformative potential in mining. The race to secure critical minerals for net-zero targets was top of mind for everyone. The challenge? The easy deposits have already been found — what remains is deeper, more complex, and often in more challenging terrain – and that’s where AI is emerging as a game changer.
AI is no longer a futuristic concept. While mining has historically been slow to adopt new technology, that’s rapidly changing. AI is already reshaping traditional exploration methods, enabling miners to make smarter, faster and more informed decisions. From real-time data analysis to predictive modelling, AI is enhancing efficiency, profitability, and sustainability across the mining value chain.
My Take
Coming out of PDAC 2025, my biggest takeaway is that mining has never been more essential, more scrutinized, and more primed for innovation.
For those of us working in communications, the challenge — and the opportunity — is clear: we need to help the mining industry tell this story better, louder, and more effectively. The world is demanding more from mining, and our job is to ensure the public, policymakers, and investors understand that responsible mining is key to achieving global climate goals.
Looking forward to seeing how these conversations evolve in the coming months — and already counting down to PDAC 2026!
